Meet Brad Jaffe

As far back as I can remember I have had a very special connection with animals, especially dogs. I seemed to understand them and they understood me. I was the typical animal loving kid bringing in strays against my mother’s wishes. My career dreams as a child were to become a veterinarian. Life took me in a different way until I found my way back in 1994. After some drastic life changing events, I walked away from a successful career and wandered about for a while, trying to find my center again. That’s when I remembered my childhood dreams of becoming a veterinarian. I walked into the closest veterinary hospital and took whatever position they had open in order to get an insider’s look at the veterinary profession. I was hired as a technician in training and within two weeks I was managing the practice as well. I was very fortunate to have walked into that particular hospital, as the owner and head veterinarian Dr. Dean Tolbert was an exceptional doctor both practically and diagnostically. I learned a tremendous amount about veterinary medicine observing and working with him. Dr. Tolbert sold his practice to a large national veterinarian corporation, staying on as head veterinarian. Through the corporation he and I took over and managed two other animal hospitals. While managing three animal hospitals was very educational and paid well, my heart was not being fed. The thought of starting school over again and heading to veterinary school just didn’t feel right either. I wanted to work directly with animals. I spoke with a few trainers and even asked a couple of them how I could learn to train and the answer was short and direct “Why would I tell you how to train, so you can take business away from me?” Fate intervened and one day I received a solicitation from a large training facility that wanted our hospitals to refer to them. I gave them a call under the pretense that I wanted to see their operation to decide if I wanted to refer to them or not. My hidden agenda was to find out if there was an opportunity for myself. There was an opportunity, although not the one I expected. Lets just say that the manager of that facility was so impressive that I married her.

Tamara and I founded Team Canine, Inc. in 1999 with the intention to transform the way dog training is done throughout the world. Unhappy with the attitude of master/servant training styles based in intimidation and forceful methods, we ventured out on a mission to find another way. Since then we have studied the pioneers of non-violent training and the fathers of modern day psychology. But most of all we have learned from the greatest teachers of dog behavior that will ever walk this earth; dogs. The thousands of dogs that have been such patient teachers to us have been the greatest contributors to how we train. Our mission is to educate millions of people about how dog's truly think and learn, creating a paradigm shift in the way we all interact with our four legged best friends.

We have had the privilege to be the on-air trainers for Mollie the Golden Doodle "co-host" of Your Life A-Z television show on Channel 3 in Phoenix, AZ.

We were the dog behavior experts for Sheriff Joe Arpaio's Maricopa County Animal Safe Hospice (MASH Unit) working with inmates to care for and rehabilitate severely abused and neglected dogs.

We were nationally certified as Pet Dog Trainers in 2002 by the Association of Pet Dog Trainers. We are also certified American Kennel Club (AKC) Canine Good Citizen evaluators.

I have conducted countless seminars with Animal Hospital staff, rescue organizations, Boys and Girls Club of America, boarding facilities, dog daycares, Rotary clubs, pet specialty stores and numerous community events
